London Lawyers’ Music is a joint amateur orchestra and chorus which rehearses and performs in the heart of London. The organisation is made up of lawyers and their friends. The orchestra rehearses on Tuesdays and the choir on Thursdays, in central London.
We have a rare opportunity to offer regular conducting positions for both the orchestra and the choir. The organisation as a whole gives five concerts per year: two choir concerts, two orchestra concerts and one joint concert.
We are seeking experienced conductors to apply for either ensemble, or to conduct both if you have a good level of experience in working with both singers and orchestral musicians. You will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of amateur music-making of a high standard, together with detailed repertoire knowledge across the spectrum, good rehearsal management skills, and the ability to challenge, inspire and develop our members, while delivering constructive and encouraging feedback.
The ideal candidate(s) are likely to have post-graduate training in orchestral and/or choral conducting, and some experience conducting amateur ensembles.
Orchestral auditions will be held on the evening of Tuesday 9th December at St Pancras Church Hall, near Euston station. There will be an informal interview in advance.
The first concert for preparation is Haydn’s Creation, commencing rehearsals in April 2026.
If you would like to apply, please email your CV outlining your experience to date to ssadoughi@gmail.com, along with a covering letter explaining your interest in the position and whether you are applying to conduct the choir, the orchestra, or both. Please also outline how you would see the role developing.
