Musical Director

Application deadline:
Thursday, 25 August 2022
Description of vacancy:

Maidenhead Choral Society is a non-auditioned SATB choir of around 30 members. We are looking for a Musical Director to start in January 2023. We have lost a few members after COVD-19 lockdowns and our conductor is retiring after 40 years of sterling service. We wish to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated MD who can help us attract more members and, by the music we sing, a larger audience. We rehearse on Monday evenings from 7.45pm to 9.45pm during term time. Ideally, we are looking for someone based in or around East Berkshire to avoid long travelling times to rehearsals.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate good experience as a choral and orchestral conductor, a wide knowledge of the choral repertoire, and above all, be able to motivate and inspire a mixed ability choir with a wide age range to perform to the best of its abilities. As well as conducting Monday night rehearsals and the choir's two concerts each year, the chosen candidate will need to work closely with the committee to stay within budget, devise programmes for two to three years in advance, and give some advice on engaging professional soloists.

The appointment is vitally important to the future of the Society. It provides an opportunity for someone with appropriate skills to lead the Society into a vibrant new phase and to raise its profile, broadening its appeal to a wider age group.

The successful applicant will contract with the choir on a self-employed basis. A probationary period will be agreed and remuneration will be subject to negotiation.
