Music for Everyone is the East Midlands’ largest independent music charity, delivering a dynamic range of instrumental and vocal music-making opportunities to people of all ages and abilities across the region.

We are seeking an inspiring and charismatic musician to direct the East Midlands Youth String Orchestra, our flagship Grade 5+ string ensemble for young players. The successful candidate will be an inspirational violin, viola, cello or double bass player as well as an experienced conductor and educator, with an ambitious desire to grow the orchestra and its repertoire. They will have a proven track record of working with people from a range of backgrounds.

The orchestra rehearses 12-14 times per year on Sunday afternoons in Nottingham and gives regular performances throughout the Music for Everyone annual season. It also holds two all-day workshops a year on Sundays in November and February, for which additional players join, integrating with our Big Youth Music Experience events.

The new director will be joining MfE’s small but passionate artistic team at an exciting time of change, and there will be the potential to grow this role for the right candidate. This may include collaborating with the director of our training string orchestra, Strictly Strings, as well as developing other opportunities and projects within the organisation.

This is a freelance contract, offered in the first instance for a fixed term of 12 months.

Fee: £30 per hour (roughly 20 hours per school term, plus extra fee for concerts)
