Description of vacancy: 

We’re seeking an experienced and passionate Regional Choir Director to lead our Midlothian Regional Choir. Working alongside our Founder and Artistic Director Christopher Bell and Director of Creative Learning Lucinda Geoghegan, you’ll be responsible for directing weekly rehearsals, choosing appropriate repertoire, and conducting concerts.

This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in young people’s lives through music. You’ll lead rehearsals using NYCOS’ Kodály-based methodology, manage a team of singing and musicianship staff, and work closely with our Regional Choir Coordinator to ensure smooth operations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Direct weekly choir rehearsals for children and young people aged 7-18
  • Choose repertoire and plan concert programmes
  • Conduct summer and winter performances
  • Manage staff timetables and support team development
  • Audition new members and maintain high musical standards

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience directing choirs, preferably with children and young people
  • Knowledge of choral music, conducting, and the Kodály approach
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for promoting choral singing in Scotland
  • Ability to work flexibly and develop collaborative relationships

HOURS


One evening per week (6-9pm), 26 weeks during term time, plus concerts

SALARY


£4,000-£4,250 per annum, including delivery hours, director’s responsibility allowance and performance fees
