Vacancy Type:
Application deadline:

Description of vacancy:

REHEARSAL ACCOMPANIST WATFORD PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY

Watford Philharmonic Society consists of a well-established SATB choir of around 120 voices, with its own largely amateur orchestra. We perform 4 times a year and our annual programme includes repertoire ranging from major classical and modern/contemporary works to musical theatre, for which we draw on the services of professional musicians and soloists.

The choir rehearses regularly through term time on Monday evenings 7.30pm to 9.30pm in central Watford and we hold a day long Saturday workshop for most concerts.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced professional piano accompanist to work closely with our Director of Music, Michael Cayton.  You would be expected to take sectional rehearsals from time to time and occasionally deputise for the MD at the rehearsal.  You would also be able to play in the orchestra for concerts when relevant.

Our fees are based on the rates recommended by Making Music for rehearsals and playing in concerts.

We are looking for a musician with a flexible and creative approach to choral accompaniment with:

  • a broad knowledge of the choral repertoire.
  • the ability to play in a variety of musical styles.
  • able to read fluently from a vocal score, the awareness of vocal techniques and confidence to coach the singers.

The successful candidate will be required to take a DBS check in line with the Society’s safe-guarding policy.

Letters of application together with CVs should be sent to: secretary@watfordphiharmonic.co.uk by  Wednesday 31st January 2024.  Auditions will be arranged for short-listed candidates during early March and a starting date for the successful candidate will be negotiated, depending on availability.  The position will be available from April 2024.
