Our Chief Executive recently attended the Beyond 2025 annual conference and reflects on what gives her hope.

Where have I been?

Barbara Eifler, Chief Executive of Making Music, recently attended Beyond 2025, the annual conference of Culture Action Europe (CAE), a lobbying umbrella body in Europe, in her capacity as a Board member of Amateo, the European Network promoting and advocating for participatory arts and culture – formed of many organisations and networks just like Making Music.

The Spring Review leaves questions over support for the arts and leisure-time music sector.

On 11 June, the Chancellor delivered her Spending Review which sets limits for governmental department spending for the next three years. 

Having read all and any information I could on this, the only thing I can say with confidence is that no one seems entirely sure who – if any – the winners are.

The Equalities and Human Rights Commission consultation – your chance to have your say.

The Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has launched a consultation on updates to its Code of Practice for services, public functions and associations. This follows the Supreme Court’s judgement on the definition of terms 'man', 'woman' and 'sex' in the Equality Act 2010 on 16th April.

Ann-Marie Knight, Musical Director of the North Herts Ladies Choir, talks to us about the group's very first anniversary.

The choir celebrated a hugely fun and successful first year of activity with an energetic gospel workshop on 28 February 2025, ran by the highly enthusiastic singer, Musical Director and workshop leader, Elaine Simpson. The workshop capped off a wonderful first year which saw the choir attend their first choir festival, host their first Christmas concert and perform at local events in their hometown, Letchworth Garden City.

Sebastian Farrall, a treasured figure in Coventry and Warwickshire's music scene, has died at the age of 32 following a tragic cycling accident on his birthday, 30 March 2025.

Seb, who lived in Coventry with his wife Fran and their 21-month-old daughter Maisy, was a dynamic and much-loved conductor, composer, arranger, and musical director. A fierce advocate for community music and inclusion, his loss is being felt deeply by his family, friends and the countless musicians and singers whose lives he touched.
