Brahms: A German Requiem by candlelight | New London Singers

A German Requiem is Brahms' best-loved and most performed choral work. Completed in 1868, it was partly inspired by the death of the young composer's mother and also of his great friend and mentor, Robert Schumann. Using the German Lutheran Bible rather than the customary Latin one, it is a requiem for the people. This will be a rare chance to hear the four-hand piano arrangement, transcribed by Brahms himself from his original orchestral composition.

Celebrated soloists Robyn Allegra Parton and Tim Nelson join New London Singers at a candlelit St James' Piccadilly.

Programme includes:

Brahms, Ein Deutsches Requiem - for choir and piano duet

Vaughan Williams, Five Mystical songs - for baritone solo, choir and piano

Strauss, Soprano Arias - for soprano solo and piano

Conductor - Ivor Setterfield
Soprano - Robyn Allegra Parton
Baritone - Timothy Nelson
Piano - Michael Higgins and Chris Lee
