Would you like to work with a friendly ladies a capella barbershop-style chorus? Hampton based Thameside Harmony Chorus are looking for a new music director. Our group has been singing together for nearly 40 years and in 2026 we hope to celebrate that event. We meet on Wednesday evenings to rehearse at Hampton Methodist Church (nearest station Hampton in west London) and we perform at occasional concerts and events in the local area. We currently have 15 members and we are looking for an enthusiastic MD with good musical knowledge and some experience working with female voices, so they can hear and help all four harmony parts. Being able to play a piano as well would be useful for rehearsals, as would being able to sing at sight. Some knowledge of the barbershop style and approach, or a willingness to acquire such knowledge, is desirable.
Rooted in the barbershop tradition the group is a member of LABBS (Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers) and sings a wide variety of repertoire from the traditional to the massive pop hit. We are looking for someone who can help us improve our performance and who has humour and sensitivity as it’s a mixed ability chorus. We are keen to grow our numbers and learn new songs so we will need support in achieving our aims.
If you are interested please email us with your cv (anytime) or call 07939 443379 (after 23rd Sep) and we will send you further information. You are of course welcome to visit us to hear us sing and find out more prior to coming for a try out and interview, hopefully around the end of October. The role would start in January 2026 but there may be an opportunity for some transition work towards the end of the year with the current MD.
