Description of vacancy: 

The Musical Director:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • To prepare for and lead Choir rehearsals and concerts;
  • To coach and help members to enjoy and develop vocal technique and musical skills;
  • To select a wide range of appropriate music for the Choir to learn and/or perform with due consideration of the varying backgrounds, skills and needs of Choir members;
  • To provide piano accompaniment at rehearsals/concerts/events if/when no separate accompanist is available or employed;
  • To work effectively with the Committee to help plan, organise and co-ordinate events and to further the aims of the Choir.

Essential:

  • An enthusiastic, creative and constructive approach to learning and performing;
  • A strong musical background;
  • Competent musical expertise to complement a wide-ranging Community Choir repertoire;
  • Efficient organisational, communications and interpersonal skills;
  • A calm, confident, patient approach with a sense of humour.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in leading a choral group ;
  • Able to adapt / make adjustments to musical scores to suit particular groups within the choir;
  • A creative approach to planning rehearsals and events that are inclusive and engaging;
  • Able to support learning as necessary through relevant electronic forms eg  audio tracks;
  • Willing to support occasional groups / sectionals.
