Richmond Opera presents Handel’s Alexander’s Feast

Richmond Opera presents Handel’s Alexander’s Feast

with Handel’s Concerto Grosso in C Major.

Richmond Opera is thrilled to announce its first-ever performance at the historic and beautiful St Mary’s University Chapel in Twickenham (TW1 4SX), a local landmark with stunning architecture. The concert will take place on Saturday 15th November 2025 at 7pm.

Under the baton of Lindsay Bramley, the Richmond Opera Baroque Orchestra, soloists, and chorus will present Handel’s exuberant secular oratorio Alexander’s Feast, sung in English. The evening will also include Handel’s Concerto Grosso in C major (HWV 318) – the sparkling work he composed in 1736 for the original oratorio.

Alexander’s Feast tells the vivid story of a banquet held by Alexander the Great and his mistress Thaïs in the conquered Persian city of Persepolis. As the musician Timotheus sings and plays, his music stirs a cascade of emotions in Alexander – from love and pride to fury – ultimately inciting him to burn the city in revenge for fallen Greek soldiers.
