Celebrating Shostakovich

Celebrating Shostakovich…

On the 50th Anniversary of his death, Shostakovich’s music still blazes with defiance and beauty. We are celebrating his legacy at our upcoming concert!

AFTERNOON CONCERT: CELEBRATING SHOSTAKOVICH -  Sunday 16 November 2025 at 3pm, King's Hall, Ilkley, Airedale Symphony Orchestra is performing:

  • Britten: Four Sea Interludes

  • Wallen: Mighty River

  • Shostakovich 5th Symphony

Experience an afternoon of musical drama, exploring music that inspired Shostakovich - Britten’s Four Sea Interludes, and music inspired by his legacy - Wallen’s Mighty River. Both composers transform sea and river into towering orchestral storytelling about the society and communities they are set in. While Shostakovich’s fifth symphony is an artistic tightrope walk between survival and subversion in Stalinist Russia.

The Airedale Symphony Orchestra will be at full force! This is incredible music to stir the senses and inspire action! Plus there will be cake in the interval ;-) Don't miss this experience...
