Use the Resonate database to find repertoire for music groups

PRS for Music Foundation are funding Association of British Orchestras members (professional ensembles) to give works premiered in the last 25 years a second performance.

Not much use to Making Music member groups? Well, as part of the project, a very useful new database of these 707 works has been created.

This is searchable by composer, by type of ensemble, by length of piece, by composition year, by composer’s birth year, by instrumentation. It might therefore be a valuable tool when programming concert repertoire. It is also possible to see who the publishers are and who originally commissioned the pieces. All the great composers of the last quarter century are there, and maybe some less well-known ones: http://resonate.abo.org.uk/works.

If you find anything for interest, you are also able to listen to excerpts from some of the pieces on this Spotify playlist. Do also approach the relevant publishers for sound files and browsing scores as part of your research – they are usually happy to help.
