Barnes Choir

THE BARNES CHOIR
About the choir:
The Barnes choir, originally known as the Barnes Music Club Choir, was established in 1953/4. A friendly and sociable choir, we number some70 singers drawn mostly from the Barnes, Sheen and Richmond areas. We perform mainly, but not exclusively, classical choral works, including those of local composers such as Howard Goodall and Gustav Holst, and we occasionally commission new works, most recently from Russell Hepplewhite. We perform three concerts each season at local venues, our spring concert being performed as part of the prestigious Barnes Music Festival of which we are a founder member. As well as our regular concerts, we sing at local charitable events at Christmas, and at summer fêtes, and we raise funds for local cancer support charity The Mulberry Centre at our Christmas carol concert. We offer an open Come and Sing day each season and arrange overseas singing tours, our most recent being a trip to Lisbon last autumn.
Membership info:
We are a friendly, sociable choir, we rehearse At All Saints Church in East Sheen (SW14 8AX) on Tuesday evenings in term time between 19.45 and 21.45 and we welcome new members. The first rehearsal of each term is an open rehearsal, so you can come and try us out - you can email us at membership@barneschoir.org.uk or just turn up. We do not hold formal auditions but our musical director, Julian Collings, will conduct a simple voice test to ensure that you are placed in the correct section. Whilst it is obviously helpful if you can read music, sight-reading is not a requirement since we provide access to rehearsal tracks for home practice, and we also offer optional musicianship classes on a variety of topics of interest to singers.
