Hinrichsen Foundation

The Hinrichsen Foundation was founded in 1976 by Mrs Carla Eddy Hinrichsen to ensure the continuation of the tradition of supporting contemporary music established by the Hinrichsen family as the proprietors of Edition Peters the music publishers, established more than 200 years ago in the German city of Leipzig.

The Foundation is principally concerned with providing support for the performance of contemporary music, which may include commissioning of new work, non-commercial recording or even publication. In all cases, the Trustees need to be convinced that their support will have a significant bearing on the viability of the project in question. They will usually not support projects with a very large over-arching budget or where the budgeting is unclear or largely speculative. While the Trustees are prepared to consider making grants in such circumstances towards the cost of a project which is essentially non-commercial, they will always have greater sympathy for those projects where the organisation involved is making some contribution towards the risk.
