Alcester Singers is seeking a Musical Director / Conductor to lead the choir for weekly rehearsals during school term time and three concerts each year, this position is paid. The role would include advising the committee on music selection and concert content, there is capacity for the use of professional soloists and musicians for concerts. The choir has an experienced rehearsal pianist. Both rehearsal and concert venues are in Alcester, Warwickshire and due to limited public transport serving the town having your own transport would be necessary.
The choir has currently approximately 45 members and no audition is required to join although we do ask that members are either able or prepared to learn to read music. Our recent Christmas concert included Finzi's In Terra Pax alongside traditional carols and other Chirstmas Songs; coming up in April 2024 we will be performing Faure's Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine as well as Vaughan-Williams Five Mystical Songs. Usually our summer informal concert is a mix of folk songs, musical theatre and well know short choral pieces.
Selection for the role will require candidates to lead a 30 minute choir rehearsal followed by a meeting with the Chair and committee members. The start date can be either May or September 2024.
