Audentior Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is looking for an individual to work with us as a Guest Leader from September 2025, at our October and December concerts. They would work collaboratively with our conductor, John Brennan, and with our enthusiastic group of amateur musicians. Fees upon enquiry.
About Audentior Symphony Orchestra:
We are Watford’s newest and most ambitious orchestra. We hope to create a high standard of music in a stimulating environment, whilst also making the joy of music open to everyone. Although we are an amateur organisation, we strive to maintain a semi-professional performance standard and take a professional approach to the running of the orchestra and quality of concert performances.

SCHEDULE:
We rehearse on Wednesdays 7:30-10 at Nascot Wood Junior School (term time only)
REQUIREMENTS
Our expectations of a Leader:
• A confident, accomplished, professional-level violinist
• Excellent sight reading ability
• Experience of leading an orchestra and comfortable working with adult amateur musicians
• Competent in advising on technical and aesthetic challenges
• A good communicator with an authoritative, yet positive and friendly manner
We are looking for a Leader who:
• Is committed, reliable and punctual
• Will attend all rehearsals and concert performances
• Will communicate with the string section leaders and give advice throughout the rehearsal process
• Will take a diligent and proactive approach with regard to bowings
• Is energetic, with an ability to motivate non-professional players to improve their standard of performance and enjoyment of music-making
• Has knowledge of a wide range of repertoire and able to offer advice and suggestions with regards to repertoire selection in line with the standard and abilities of the orchestra
• Will liaise with the Musical Director and Orchestra Manager, in person and by email, for the smooth running of rehearsals and concert performances
• Will give sufficient notice for any planned absences
• Will arrange for a competent deputy should the need arise
After a concert has been led as guest leader, we're looking to appoint a permanent Orchestral Leader for ASO.
