Musical Director

Application deadline:
Friday, 24 February 2017
Description of vacancy:

The Falkirk Tryst Orchestra (FTO) was formed by our present Musical Director (MD), Mr. Bob Tait, in 2002. It is a community orchestra with a well-balanced symphonic structure formed from individuals of a wide range of ages and musical abilities. At present the membership stands at approximately 75 and is open to players of orchestral instruments with ability of Grade 4 and above, with guest players included only when essential. The orchestra is managed and run by an active and engaged committee who collaborate closely with the MD.

The orchestra performs 3 concerts every year, normally in Falkirk Town Hall. Rehearsals are held in Falkirk Trinity Church, for approximately 6 weeks prior to each concert. Its repertoire has progressed from simpler musical arrangements to fully instrumented, more advanced compositions.

The New Musical Director
We are seeking a new MD who will continue to develop the orchestra whilst maintaining its essential philosophies of openness and community artistic engagement. Our ideal MD will encourage involvement of members across a wide range of playing abilities, promote a strong identity with the local community and foster the enjoyment of the music by players and audience alike.

The new MD will enjoy considerable freedom in selecting orchestra repertoire and, in order to guide this leeway, should have a vision for the future development of its musicality and ensemble playing. He/she will be required to balance the need for inclusion of different musical abilities and experience levels with the desire to challenge the more competent players.
