Description of vacancy: 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled Musical Director with the ability to motivate, to lead our community choir of mixed voices to begin after Easter 2023.

Roade Community Choir has a 27 year history and performs a variety of concerts and charity fundraising events for the local community.  At present we are working towards a concert just before Easter.

 The Singing/Music:

There are no auditions for our choir, and it is not necessary for choir members to read music. Our main aim is for members to have fun and enjoy the music they make. Our weekly rehearsals take place term time on Wednesday evenings in Roade Methodist Church, Hartwell Road, ROADE NN7 2NT between 7.30 - 9pm. We occasionally meet for a Saturday morning rehearsal prior to a concert. The choir has a wide repertoire of 4 part harmony songs with a large library of music owned by the choir.

Remuneration:

  • This is a self-employed position in line with Musician Union rates and this is reviewed regularly.
  • Other activities will be remunerated at an agreed rate with the Committee

Post Description:

  • Take rehearsals, coach and conduct performers
  • Plan appropriate rehearsal schedules
  • Work with the Music Librarian and Treasurer in obtaining music
  • Work with the committee to plan and advise on all musical matters

The role involves:

  • Arriving at 7.15pm on a Wednesday for a 7.30pm start, finishing at 9:15pm
  • Providing a thorough vocal warm up (15-20mins) including rounds/fun songs 
  • Teaching the songs from the piano (or full-size electronic piano)
  • Selecting music prior to the start of term in conjunction with the committee
  • Skills in tweaking an arrangement of music would be desirable
  • Producing rehearsal tapes for the choir to use for practice outside of weekly rehearsal time
  • Conducting performances to small audiences (usually once- but sometimes twice-termly) which can occur on other days of the week.
  • General liaison with the committee and attendance at one committee planning meeting per term usually in the week before the start of term.
