Wigan Choral Society is looking for an enthusiastic Musical Director with a knowledge and experience of choral conducting to take up the post in March, 2020. Experience of conducting an orchestra would be an advantage.

Our well-established choral society of about 60 mixed voices enjoys a wide repertoire of mainly sacred and some secular music ranging from baroque to more contemporary works.

Further details about the choir and details of past and future performances can be seen on our website.

We are looking for a keen musician, preferably a music graduate, with a wide knowledge of choral repertoire, who can maintain and develop the standard of the choir through good vocal training and promote enjoyment of music-making through positive, friendly encouragement in rehearsals.

The Musical Director will:

* Plan the musical programme of at least three concerts each year in consultation with the committee.

* Take weekly 2 hour rehearsals (Monday) and conduct concerts.

* Be responsible for engaging soloists if required.

Rehearsals, supported by a professional accompanist, take place at St Michael’s Church, Swinley Road, Wigan, WN1 2BJ on Monday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Next season’s performances have been arranged and will include Mozart’s Requiem on April 4th, 2020, and an Opera Choruses-based concert on June 27th, 2020.

Interested candidates should submit a CV and brief covering letter. Please send them to our Secretary, Annemarie McAllister at: amca@hotmail.co.uk

If short-listed you will be asked to attend a short interview on a Monday evening in January 2020 and direct a 30 minute rehearsal of a specified piece from Mozart’s Requiem.

The closing date for applications is Friday 29th November, 2019.

Short-listed candidates will be notified by Monday 16th December, 2019.  If you would like additional information, please contact our Secretary: amca@hotmail.co.uk
