The UK Choir Festival returns for 2018

The UKCF is back and this year we'll be helping to run the Mastermind Sessions for choir leaders

The UK Choir Festival returns this year, promising workshops and collaborative performances for vocal groups of all kinds and abilities. Making Music staff will be on hand and co-hosting the Mastermind Session on day one of the Manchester event. So if you're coming, make sure you stop by and say hello!

What is it?

Launched in 2016, the festival is aimed at providing support, training and performance opportunities for vocal groups. Choirs of all abilities, ages and style are welcome to attend. The festival is non-competitive, but very much ‘hands-on’ for everyone to watch and learn from each other while being guided and developed by workshop leaders.

It will involve practical and method teaching, and everyone will be involved. At the end of each day, choirs get the opportunity to rehearse and then perform (if they choose to) in front of each other and the panel of workshop leaders will give each choir written constructive feedback.
There will be opportunities to busk, make new friends and talk to the workshop leaders, as well as learn new techniques, brush up on performance, and hear about tips and tricks. Plus you can meet festival sponsor (and Making Music corporate member) Rayburn Tours.

This year, Making Music will be co-hosting the Saturday afternoon Mastermind Session for choir leaders, where we'll be on hand to help with advice and guidance on dealing with all manner of the practical challenges that can come up when running a group.

When and where is it?

The festival will be taking place on three weekends this year in different locations. Groups can choose to attend one or both days for each location:

  • 17 and 18 February: Manchester
  • 13 and 14 October: Monmouth (Wales)
  • 20 and 21 Otcober: St Albans

How much is it?

Tickets aren't available on an individual basis - they must be bought by the choir as a whole. Prices start from £29 per person/day. Choir leaders can reserve tickets for up to 14 days.
