Making Music welcomes new board members

Making Music is the UK membership organisation for leisure-time music and is overseen by a board of nine trustees, who are elected by member groups of Making Music – and up to three more can be co-opted. This year at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 2 July, we announced four board members; three of which are new and one re-elected.

They are:

  • Alison Holdom - Surrey Harmony
Alison sings with Surrey Harmony, a women's chorus based in Coulsdon, Surrey, where she is also a Trustee. Alison is a Funding Manager at Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, one of the UK's largest independent funders. Previously she had a variety of roles in the theatre sector.

  • Katy Lethbridge - Wokingham Choral Society
Katy is a long-time performer in leisure-time orchestras, musical theatre, opera, and classical choirs. She is the Chair and a Trustee of Wokingham Choral Society, and an Angel sponsor of the Surrey Hills International Music Festival, supporting established, emerging and young musicians in their professional careers. Katy is passionate about helping leisure-time and professional musicians to flourish, supporting a vibrant and sustainable UK musical community.

  • Nick James - Rhondda Symphony Orchestra (re-elected for a second term)
Nick James has been a committee member for the Rhondda Symphony Orchestra in Wales for many years in a variety of roles, including publicity, IT and finance. He also has a wealth of experience in the business software and corporate world. Nick is passionate about giving people the chance to play and perform music in their community.

  • Sumit Biswas - Wantage Orchestra
Sumit is a violinist and Treasurer of Wantage Orchestra, which performs regularly to the public in Oxfordshire. He is passionate that playing, performing or listening to music enriches and builds communities. He also works as a management consultant, with his own business specialising in strategy, transformation and improvement, across many varied corporate and public sector organisations. He has also been Non-Executive Director on the Board of NHS Trusts for several years.

Alison Reeves, Deputy CEO and Scotland Manager, said:

'The Making Music Board is so valuable to the staff team and the membership, both for the wealth of professional experience they bring and for their lived experience of and enthusiasm for leisure time music groups. We welcome these three Board members, who bring new skills and perspectives to move Making Music forward, along with a drive to support fellow member groups to flourish and bring a diversity of new groups into membership.'

The three new board members will be joining:

  • Andy Devine – Teesside Music Society
  • Catherine Travers – London Philharmonic Choir and St Neots Sinfonia
  • Jayne Barr – Hampstead Chamber Choir
  • Margaret Harrison – Neston Singers
  • Neil Weir – Edinburgh Bach Choir
  • Philip O’Rawe – Capella Caeciliana
  • Rhiannon Harrison, Chair – Worsley Concert Band
  • Will Prideaux – Peterborough Sings!

We're thrilled to have their expertise on board and look forward to continuing to foster creativity, collaboration, and growth within our community.
