Finding music for performance

Finding music for performance – what you need to know

Discovering new music, deciding what to perform and actually sourcing the sheet music can be both the most fun and frustrating parts of running a music group.

Whether you’re looking for new repertoire, thinking of commissioning or just trying to find the cheapest option for the sheet music you need, we have resources to help.

Adopt a Composer legacy: Re-scored pieces for member groups to perform

Composers who took part in the 2016/17 project have re-scored their pieces to make them more accessible to groups of other kinds. These new versions are now available for Making Music member groups to download for free and perform.

How and where to source music

This guidance is aimed at providing all the information you need to act as your group's librarian - from sourcing music to dealing with copyright.

Hiring music from publishers

Whether you need choral scores or a set of orchestral parts, the procedures outlined below will help to ensure that you receive what you want, when you want it. These guidelines have been developed to help avoid misunderstandings, delays and errors on the part of users and publishers alike.

Sing or play Danyal Dhondy's choral companion piece to Fauré’s Requiem for free

Danyal Dhondy's Still the Sirens is a new piece commissioned by Making Music specifically for leisure-time vocal groups as a companion piece to Fauré’s Requiem. The parts are available free to Making Music members until July 2020 in digital format.

The new work Still the Sirens is approximately 28-30 minutes long and you can now download the full score for free.
