About the policy – musical property

What happens if my insured values increase past my cover limit?

The sum insured will be the most we will pay. If the sum insured is not adequate, any claim will be reduced in proportion to the degree of under-insurance. For example, if your property limit is £10,000 (Gold package) and your insured property increases past this limit, you should let us know and upgrade to ‘Platinum’ cover. If you don’t, you will still be insured up to £10,000, but not for any amount above that.

If my musical property is lost, stolen, or damaged will I get the full value of the property?

Yes, assuming the full value is within the policy limits.

If repair is possible, we will pay for the cost of repair.

If repair is not possible then we replace on a new for old basis. This means the cover will provide for the cost of buying a new version of the musical property (up to your policy limits). If the model of the item being replaced is no longer in production, we will replace with an equivalent model or specification.

Note: there is an excess of £100 of for computer equipment, this means you have to pay the first £100 of each claim relating to computer equipment.

Do I have to keep a record of the instruments in my household?

One of the great things about our insurance is that you do not have to notify us of what instruments/musical property you have in your household. However, we do recommend that you keep records of your instruments/musical property. This could be a receipt or for older items (where you might not have a receipt) a photo and record of the make and model.  It is not a requirement of the scheme but having a record is good practice will make claims easier.

Does the insurance cover me lending my instrument to another individual as part of a musical activity I am involved in?

Our policy covers you and the members of your household’s use of the instruments. It does not cover any other individual playing your instruments – for example if you take your own timpani to a rehearsal and another percussionist plays them they are not covered.

My daughter has gone to university and taken her instruments with her – are they still covered under the policy?

The Policy covers Insured Property owned by you, your partner, any of your relatives that permanently live with you, and any of your domestic employees. Students at university who are only temporarily living elsewhere due to education and would normally live with you are covered by the policy.
