Composer commissioning contract - template

Commissioning and performing new music is vital in keeping the voluntary music community thriving. It brings enthusiasm and energy to groups, offers new experiences and skills to group members and helps create interesting and fresh programming for audiences. It can seem like a daunting project to embark on – but it doesn’t have to be – with good planning and preparation it should be a hugely enjoyable and valuable journey to go on.

The model contract is intended solely as a starting-point for negotiations. As with any contract, it may be appropriate for the parties to the contract to negotiate amendments and modifications to suit their own particular circumstances.

You can find out more in our step-by-step guide to commissioning and use the British Society of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) model contract below to keep things simple.

With many thanks to BASCA for giving Making Music members access to and permission to use their model commissioning contract.
