Subsidies for engaging professional artists

In the current economic climate, where arts funding is scarcer than ever, it can be tough for amateur music groups to engage high-quality soloists for their concerts. To help to address this, Making Music runs the following schemes, helping member groups to engage artists at specially reduced or subsidised rates.

Philip and Dorothy Green Young Artists

The Young Artists scheme enables young musicians at the start of their careers to gain vital concert and recital experience across the UK and allows Making Music members to engage some of the very best young musical talent at a reduced cost.

Subsidised rates:

  • Soloist: £250 (of which £150 can be claimed back from Making Music)
  • Accompanist: £250 (of which £100 can be claimed back from Making Music)

St Martin's Chamber Music Competition winners

With the support of Making Music, the Chamber Music Competition is able to offer winners the opportunity to establish and develop a performance profile throughout the UK. Through our collaboration, Making Music member groups can book the winning ensemble for an exclusive fee under our discounted artist scheme.

Subsidised rate:

  • £250 per artist for the first 12 engagements (excluding travel expenses and accommodation)

Selected Artists Subsidy

To help some of our smaller promoting groups with the cost of booking professional artists we are introducing a new booking fee subsidy with this year's Selected Artist Guide.

  • A £100 subsidy is available towards the booking fee of any of the Selected Artists in the Selected Artist Guide, including the Jazz and Folk selections.

Artists Expenses Subsidy

We know from your feedback that some of our smaller promoting groups struggle with paying expenses for professional artists. To try and help with this we have set up an Artist Expenses Subsidy (AES).

  • Subsidies ranging from £50 to £125 are available where travel and accommodation expenses total at least £80.
