Helston Chamber Choir was formed in October 1971 as the Helston and Kerrier Music Society by Rev. John Simpson, while vicar of Helston. It was intended to provide musical education and entertainment by putting on concerts, recitals and talks at reasonable prices. The choir was formed as part of achieving this aim. For some years now the choir has been the only functioning part of the society and the name was changed to Helston Chamber Choir in the early 2000s. We are currently a mixed voice non-audition choir of between 20 - 30 singers who meet on a Tuesday evening in St Michael's Church, Helston, Cornwall. We present two or three concerts per year. Under our present musucal director we have successfully performed Bach's St John Passion, several Bach cantatas, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and King Arthur, Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri, Charpentier's Messe de Minuit, Haydn's Creation and numerous shorter pieces both older and works by contemporary composers inernational and local.
