Conductor/Musical Director

Are you an enthusiastic professional musician with conducting experience who has the skills and
artistic vision to become Reading Symphony Orchestra’s new Conductor and Musical Director? If so,
then we’d love to hear from you!
Founded in 1944, Reading Symphony Orchestra (RSO) is one of the leading amateur orchestras in
Berkshire and is led by a professional Conductor and Musical Director. With over 60 able players, we
perform three main concerts a year in and around Reading, tackling a broad range of challenging
large-scale symphonic and orchestral repertoire. We also perform an annual Children’s concert, a
smaller-scale Sinfonietta chamber concert and a Christmas concert. We have strong links with our
twin orchestra in Düsseldorf, Germany, and often perform joint concerts either in Germany or in
Reading.
We are keen to encourage young performers through our annual Young Musicians’ Competition,
whereby the winner is usually offered the chance to perform a concerto with the orchestra. We are
also accommodating to young players who wish to join the orchestra.
We are a friendly, encouraging, and supportive orchestra which looks to give its members the best
possible experience, whilst also striving for musical excellence.
We are looking for a new Conductor and Musical Director to start in mid-November 2023, to help us
continue to achieve a position of excellence and quality within Reading’s musical life.

Cheltenham Choral Society seeks a Musical Director
Starting date mid-November 2023 or could be delayed to January 2024 for the right candidate
Cheltenham Choral Society (CCS) has recently celebrated its 85th Anniversary. We are seeking an accomplished and established Musical Director to direct and train the choir from mid-November 2023 or, for the right candidate we can delay the start of the appointment until January 2024 if required. The role offers the opportunity to prepare the choir for an exciting repertoire of concerts and to work with the CCS Committee to develop the future direction of the Society.

CCS is a non-audition choir of around 70 members performing public concerts to a high standard. The concert programme is drawn mainly from both the classical and modern choral repertoire. Rehearsals are accompanied by piano, whilst performances are often supported by chamber orchestra or organ.

We rehearse on Wednesdays from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at St Andrews United Reformed Church, Montpellier Street, Cheltenham GL50 1SP
for around 39 weeks each year, broadly in line with academic terms: we meet in half-term weeks.
