Holmfirth Choral Society seeks New Musical Director

Are you an enthusiastic, friendly, and supportive conductor with a passion for choral music? Holmfirth Choral Society is a non-auditioned SATB choir of around 60 members, founded in 1944. We are looking for a passionate musician to lead us into the next phase of our music making.

We meet weekly for 90 minutes of enjoyable, yet focused, singing practice. With a love for the traditional choral repertoire, we perform three major concerts each year, sometimes with a local semi-professional orchestra, along with a lighter event in the summer.

Vacancy for Music Director

Music Director - HCS Youth Choirs

The award winning Huddersfield Choral Youth Choirs have gained a reputation for musical excellence since 1986.  The singers join at any age between 7 and 21 years.  There are currently about 50 singers performing a wide range of music, both sacred and secular, performing works by Chilcott, Rutter, Whitacre, Lauridsen, Goodall and Quartel as well as songs from musicals.  There are a minimum of three concerts per year. www.huddersfieldchoralyouthchoirs.com and Huddersfield Choral Youth Choirs - YouTube

Music Director - HCS Voices

HCS Voices is the community choir of Huddersfield Choral Society (HCS) and sits alongside the HCS and Youth Choirs. It was formed in 2019 to act as both a community choir and a route into membership of HCS. In these six years, it has grown to around 70 members, rehearsing weekly during term-time. It welcomes people of all musical abilities and experience, including some who do not read music - there are no auditions and anyone over 18 can join. Members come from Huddersfield and the wider surrounding area.

The choir sings a mixture of secular and sacred songs from around the world, including world music, folk and popular songs and musicals, as well as works by Anglea, Chilcott, Lauridsen, Quartel and others. HCS Voices performs a minimum of three concerts each year on its own and with other groups, including appearances with HCS. Previous collaborations have included: performing with Black Dyke Band at the HCS Christmas Concert, and with His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts in HCS’ performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers. The choir also performs at other events, eg, charity fund raisers and local festivals.

Associate Choral Director

Associate Choral Director -  Huddersfield Choral Society

Start Date: September 2025

Applications are invited for an Associate Director to join the HCS Professional Team of Greg Batsleer, Ellie Slorach, Daniel Gordon and Joyce Tindsley. After six wonderful years as Associate, Ellie Slorach’s role with the choir is changing in response to her growing commitments as a conductor, and we are seeking a candidate with the qualities to follow in her footsteps.

Huddersfield Choral’s purpose is to promote and deliver life-changing choral experiences for singers and audiences across West Yorkshire and beyond. With a thriving membership of over 140 singers, it is one of the UK’s most celebrated choral ensembles. Hudderfield Choral is the flagship choir within a family of choirs which also includes the Huddersfield Choral Society Youth Choirs and HCS Voices. Please note that HCS is also currently inviting applications for Music Directors in both these choirs.

Music Director

One Voice Choir in Fordingbridge is seeking a Music Director from September 2025.

One Voice has about 40 members and we sing SATB arrangements of a wide variety of musical styles.  Members are not auditioned, but many can read music, and all aim to sing to a high standard.  What we have in common is a love of singing together, making a joyful noise and feeling the power of the music.  There are also many laughs along the way!  We  enjoy singing in our regular concerts.

Director of Music - East London Community Band

The East London Community Band (ELCB) is a vibrant, inclusive, and community-driven music organisation based in Tower Hamlets. We provide musical opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment where musicians can develop their skills, perform regularly, and engage with the local community. We particularly encourage young people and prioritise places for youth members. Our intergenerational character (where 8 year-olds and 80 year-olds can play side-by-side) is something of which we're very proud.

Our ensembles include wind bands, jazz ensembles, percussion group, early music, as well as tuition. We have been making music since 1974 and take pride in our diverse, welcoming, and sociable community. In 2024 ELCB celebrated our 50th anniversary with a high-profile series of community-focused concerts and events, significantly raising our profile. As a result, demand for our programmes has surged, with an active membership of approximately 120 members and a waiting list of around 40. We are a volunteer-run and volunteer-led registered charity.
